Seen whilst taking a friends dog a walk after the rain. The clouds allowed a glow across the distant hills,

and the barley field was complimented by the blue & mauve.

A sketch was made and added to on the way back. Later that day the painting was started.

In 1997 another barley field was painted (see Lez painting it in photos).

As I walked along a lane one day,

  my eyes beheld a sight.

It was as if my eyes were skinned

  and the dark had turned to light.

A barley field, with a broken gate

  was beautiful to my view.

My artistic instincts sprang to life,

  and I knew what I would do.

I hurriedly sketched the scene I saw,

  so I could recall with ease.

The scene that captivated me and,

  let my soul be teased.

Later on I painted it,

  with colours bright and fresh.

And lived again the glorious scene,

  leaving out all worldly stress.
